But giving up was never an option.

Yesterday’s MRI confirmed what I was already feeling: a longitudinal fracture of the sacrum with significant bone marrow edema 😤
So yes — no running pictures at all 😢

The pain was already there before I flew to #Phuket as my final preparation for @ironmanwesternaustralia.
The people who know me know that I never quit easily, so I still travelled, hoping for a quick recovery and a small miracle.

I even won the 2km open water swim at @lagunaphukettri 🏊‍♂️
But the next day reality hit again.
Even “running” into the water after the start was painful, I was almost last at the first buoy but fought my way back to 5th–6th out of the swim.
The bike felt solid, but after just 50 meters of running I couldn’t continue — even walking was impossible. A scooter had to bring me back.

I invested everything into physio, doctors and treatment to somehow make it to the finish line of the race I came for.
The swim at @ironmanwesternaustralia was still a personal best with 47:54 — and could have been even faster with better positioning on lap two.
The bike (4:19h) was strong as well, riding in a group around 15th–18th position, about 15 minutes behind the lead pack — still right in the mix.

I fought through 3km of the run, believing in that miracle one more time…
But then walking replaced running, and the only option left was to stop.

Back in Germany, the MRI made it clear:
A longitudinal fracture with significant bone marrow edema in the right lateral mass of the sacrum.

Looking back, I’m still incredibly grateful for this journey — for the people I met, the support I received, and the experiences along the way.
I love what I do. And I will come back 💪🏼🤩

Last race of the season tomorrow morning at 7 am @ironmanwesternaustralia 🇦🇺 (12:00 am European time 🇩🇪).

Made it all the way Down Under to #busselton 🇦🇺
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to run for the past three weeks due to a back injury. Still hoping for a little overnight magic and to wake up with fewer issues.

On the positive side: I'm feeling really excited, and both swim and bike performance are looking very solid. 💪🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️

Super grateful for all the support from the physios and doctors here who've done everything possible to get me to this start line. Let's see what's in the tank. 🙏🏁

Cheer for bib #35.

As always, live tracking is available on the @ironmantri App.

Just tested the new AS2 PRO from @cycplus_official.

For me, it's a perfect match as I travel a lot with my bike, and it was never easier to have a pump with me on training camps or especially on race day mornings. But also, just on every training ride, it's so easy to always have a pump with me, which delivers exactly the right pressure I need for my tire.
PSI or Bar, it doesn't matter; both are available. | AD

Use the Code SVENWIES for 5% off.

| AD You see the Code SVENWIES for 5% off. www.cycplus.com/?ref=embnbvvk
